From Cavallone to Schumann at Teatro Del Monaco
A review of the Treviso concert with pianist Maria Perrotta, moving from Paolo Cavallone’s music to Schumann’s Piano Quintet.
“Refined and precise in Cavallone, they then offered an extraordinary performance of Schumann’s Piano Quintet.”
The concert at Teatro Mario Del Monaco in Treviso placed contemporary creation beside one of the landmarks of the Romantic repertoire. With pianist Maria Perrotta, Quartetto Guadagnini performed music by Paolo Cavallone before turning to Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44.
The review noted the refinement and precision of the performances of Cavallone, followed by the breadth and virtuosity brought to Schumann. The programme allowed two musical languages to illuminate one another rather than treating contemporary music as a separate territory.
That continuity — between a living composer and a work deeply rooted in the chamber-music tradition — was the defining idea of the evening.
