Between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Italian chamber music followed paths often overshadowed by the country’s operatic tradition. These piano quintets reveal another landscape: dense writing, lyrical impulse and a continuous exchange between European forms and an Italian sense of line.
The project has already taken shape in concert with Louis Lortie and Enrico Pace, through different programmes and occasions. In each encounter, the piano enters the quartet’s conversation and offers a new perspective on this repertoire.
“The ‘understanding through difference’ between Enrico Pace and Quartetto Guadagnini confirmed the depth of a shared interpretative project.”
