The human factor: a quartet built on listening
Amadeus devoted its November 2017 cover story to Quartetto Guadagnini: a wide-ranging conversation on listening, study, repertoire and growing together.
“What matters is not knowing what sets us apart from other quartets, but being aware that we want to have something to tell through our music.”
In November 2017, Amadeus placed Quartetto Guadagnini on its cover and devoted a substantial feature to the ensemble. Andrea Milanesi’s interview, titled The Human Factor, presents the quartet through the relationships that sustain its musical work: listening, discussion, trust and the ability to question one another.
The conversation moves from daily rehearsal and score study to the formative encounters with Hatto Beyerle and Peter Cropper. It also touches on the quartet’s artistic references, its approach to repertoire and the Brahms and Dvořák recording published with that issue of the magazine.
Read today, the feature is both a historical document and a clear statement of intent. Beyond careers and labels, it describes chamber music as a shared responsibility: four individual voices seeking something worth communicating together.
